Spanish I & II

Spanish 1, 2, and 3 will be taught simultaneously, and each week Mrs. Cull and a T.A. will rotate groups for conversational Spanish, grammar, and literature. These two classes will fulfill the requirements for the two-year high school foreign language requirement. It will also be appropriate for motivated middle school students. Spanish 3 requirements vary among chapter schools, but this course will fulfill A-G requirements.

  • Curriculum: This curriculum  will meet the requirements of all charter schools in my experience:

    • Spanish 1: Spanish is Fun Book 1 by Heywood Wald AMSCO Publications 2024 978-1634199285

    • Spanish 2: Spanish is Fun Book 2 by Heywood Wald AMSCO Publications 2015  978-1629746708

  • Times: Wednesdays or Thursdays from 9:30 - 11:00

  • Dates: March 11th - June 3rd

  • Cost: $75/month (Cash: $50/month — Venmo/PayPal/Zelle: $60/month)

  • Location: T House Tutoring Center

Textbook Skills Students will study:

  • Basic conversational skills

  • Common vocabulary and idioms

  • Spanish reading and pronunciation

  • Basic spelling and writing of Spanish

  • Study of Spanish-speaking cultures, countries, and geography 

  • Grammatical study of verb tenses: 

    • Spanish 1: present, progressive, preterit, and imperfect tenses.

    • Spanish 2: preterit, imperfect, future, subjunctive, and perfect tenses.

    • Spanish 3: Literature + review of future, subjunctive, and perfect tenses.

  • Grammatical study of Spanish adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, and participles.

DAILY WORKLOAD:

  • Four days of homework, requiring 45-60 minutes/day.

  • Homework will require daily access to internet and computer time.  

  • NOTE: Learning a foreign language requires a commitment to DAILY practice. Consistent practice and homework completion are ESSENTIAL to success in this class.

GRADES:

  • Grades will be based on 1) weekly quizzes 2) chapter tests 3) homework 4) class participation. 

  • I will give a class grade to each student.

CULTURAL EXPERIENCES:

Students will experience the Hispanic community through: 

  • Field trip to local Hispanic market or cultural event (concert, church service, etc.)

  • In-class guest speakers

  • Internet listening and learning activities

  • Read appropriate Spanish books, magazines, newspapers, and internet.
